Bio

DJ SAL is well rounded when it comes to the art of being a DJ. Spending a good part of the early 90’s in Norfolk, VA he started working daily on the art and craft of mixing and scratching. It became an everyday thing for him. Sal grew up listening to all genres of music, which has helped made him very knowledgeable will all music types. Listening and watching DJs like, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Q-Bert, Kid Capri, DJ Craze, and DJ Bee inspired him to become the DJ he is today.

In the late 90’s Sal made the switch from amateur DJ, to a professional DJ with the help from DJ Bee, as he allowed Sal to hold down guest spots on 'The Saturday Morning Mixtape' on 103 Jamz (WOWI-FM - Norfolk, VA). In addition Sal was spinning weekly at various night clubs in the 757 area. After relocating to North Carolina, he would travel back and forth from NC to VA rocking private events, clubs, in addition to spinning nightly on Hot 102.1 (WWHV-FM -Virginia Beach, VA).

Over the years Sal has worked with various artists, including being the Official DJ for ex-loud records recording artist ‘O.V.A.’ and ex-Universal Records recording artist’s “Thug City”.

When Hot 102.1 FM folded in late 2006, Sal made his move to WYTT-FM 99.5 Jamz (located in Roanoke Rapids, NC / Emporia, VA) At 99.5 Jamz Sal brought a hype Friday night show entitled “Club 99 5” to the airwaves. Every Friday night he had the airwaves locked down. The following year he was contacted to spin weekdays on WHTU-FM Hot 97.9 (Meridian, MS). He eventually departed WYTT-FM to put his full attention on his work at Hot 97.9

In addition to releasing various Mix Cds over the years; including the popular “Flashback” Mix CD Series, he was featured several times on The Michael Baisden Show. Not only did he mix on-air, but he also did some behind the scenes production work during his short run with them.

In the world of radio nothing is guaranteed, stations get sold, formats change, etc. Eventually all roads led back to 99.5 Jamz WYTT-FM. Wanting to do something different he held down a daily mix show weekdays at 2pm entitled ‘The 2 O’clock Fix’. After several years the decision was made to go back to Friday Nights. Beginning in 2013 ‘Club 99 5 with DJ Sal’ was re-launched. After some personal hardships, Sal decided to end the Club 99-5 theme, as it was time to rebrand and rebuild. On Friday June 23rd, 2017 the Final Edition of Club 99-5 hit the airwaves.

Currently DJ Sal can be heard every Friday night from 10pm/est - 12Mid/est on 99.5 Jamz (WYTT-FM) during "The TakeOva with DJ Sal & Big B" You can also catch him spinning at various clubs throughout Northeastern NC & Southside Virginia.
